Passion Through Planned Negligence

The Two Approaches to Planning

  1. No procrastination -  Plan and get things done as soon as you know about it, so rest and pleasure can be enjoyed when all arrangements are made. This is the typical approach to Type A person. The advantage of this approach is that things get done far in advance of the actual due date. The disadvantage is that often rest and pleasure are not enjoyed, for time is used making this project even better or starting another project.

  2. Procrastination - The second approach is embraced by people who have a tendency to procrastinate. They put things off until they have to be done and then because there is such pressure the job will be done with intense focus and under great stress. The advantage of this approach is that things get done quickly. The disadvantage is that things may not be done with as much quality because of time limits and other restraints.

Concepts for Healthy Planning for Each Approach

  1. For the planners in advance, when things get done they build in an actual rest time. Actually plan a time out by making a stopping point and doing something that is of great reward. This separates one project’s completion from the next project starting up. For example, plan a vacation or break to a favorite place or get away to signify the end of the project. Enjoy the time away so you can come to the back to the original project with freshness and then start on the next deadline project. Repeat this cycle. Pay attention to the tendency to use pressure to deserve pleasure.

  2. For procrastinators actually plan negligence. Actually put on the calendar when you really need to be intensely focused on the upcoming project for at that time the project will get all of your focused attention. Once that date is established enjoy rest, pleasure and time doing what you like to do up to that time. Let the pleasure of pouring into yourself build up energy for the project that is coming and when it gets here go all in knowing that another break is coming where you can rest and enjoy freedom again.

Conclusion

  •  For the focused planner: plan rest, plan for your negligence in a time you will get away at the end of project or deadline and actually neglect any other obligation.

  • For the unfocused procrastinator: plan negligence and set a time when you will start pressuring yourself to meet a deadline and from now until that time enjoy the pleasures of down time.

  • Such planning will allow you to express the wonderful traits of your personality, while effectively addressing the pressures and pleasures of life and vocation.

  • I must go away from the world in order to live in deep connection and passion within the world.
