How do we handle ingratitude? Here are 7 approaches of how we can respond to ingratitude.
1. Let go of the attachment to outcome.
At the moment of giving, pay attention to what is the motive. Ask, “What is the motive for my giving?”
2. Realize that I too take things for granted.
Sometimes simple math is the hardest. The ability to count our blessings.
3. Reflect that the spelling of graceful and grateful is only different by one letter.
If I can give grace, I can be grateful.
4. Trust in the law of the harvest. What you sow you will reap.
There will always be a return on kindness given with a good attitude. Am I in flow of kindness and giving?
5. How grateful am I in the opportunity to give? If I am expecting thanks, then I myself am probably not thankful for the opportunity to give.
Think in terms that by noticing others ingratitude I show the same myself.
6. Set up and communicate boundaries for giving and if the boundaries are crossed then do not continue.
Knowing my limitations will keep me from being drained.
7. Think in the long term.
Think of the extended ramifications and determine the sustainability of giving.
