Forgiveness is not approving of what happened, it is acknowledging the offense and choosing to rise above it.
Feelings - Forgiveness acknowledges the offense so we don’t excuse it and can consequently work through our feelings.
If we deny our hurt then we can’t know when we have healed.
If we don’t allow ourselves to recognize the offense we will end up using one of the debilitating modes of expressing our emotions.
Fences - Forgiveness acknowledges the offense so we don’t excuse it and can consequently work on having healthy boundaries in relationships. We build fences.
If we don’t acknowledge the offense and instead try to excuse it then we cannot establish healthy boundaries.
Setting up fences keeps us from offenses.
Forgiveness does not equal restoration
Forgiveness does not equal trust.
Forgiveness is given; trust is built.
