GOALS & GRATS

The word resolution is re-solution - This means I have to come up with another solution because the first one didn’t work.

The word resolve - This means I have to find another way to solve the original challenge because the first solution didn’t work. I have to solve it a different way.

We are so prone to focusing on the outcome and goals being reached but on average between 64-80% of New Year's resolutions are given up in the first 3-weeks.

STEP 3: RE(SOURCE) YOUR HEALTH

NOTES:

Goals have to do with accomplishment.

Goals have to do with getting. Getting fit, getting more stuff, getting acknowledged.

Goals have to do with measurements and tangibles.

The word measurement is: me assuring myself it meant something.

Goals are about external validation. I have to get recognition. It asks the question of myself “Am I good enough?” and then gives the answer by an external proving.

This will be a constant stress and obligation.

Goals have to do with grief or guilt about the past and/or anxiety or worry about the future.

Gratitude’s (Grats) have to do with appreciation.

Gratitude has to do with giving. Giving thanks for health and the knowledge and ability to be healthy.

Gratitude’s have to do with the immeasurable and intangible.

I can’t measure unseeable things like joy or curiosity.

To be clear, there is nothing wrong with measurement, it is just not the end of the story. Measurement isn’t the only thing that matters.

The emphasis is to give an internal expression by external means. I recognize my goodness and get to express it with what I do.

This has to do with the process rather than the progress. Enjoy the journey. Enjoy the now

Goals and Grats Practical Applications to Holistic Living:

Social

Getting - (Accomplishment)

How many likes, dislikes, and comments am I getting?

Giving - (Appreciation)

I am thankful for the deep relationships that I have and have had.

It is about connection.

Physical

Getting (Accomplishment)

I need to lose so many pounds if dieting or greater muscle mass if working out.

I need to walk more miles.

Giving (Appreciation)

I am thankful for the health I have and the opportunity to express this health in my physical activity.

Intellectual

Getting - (Accomplishment)

I need to read more books (per month) or listen to more podcasts.

Giving - (Appreciation)

I am thankful for the curiosity that will lead me to hear from a variety of contributors whether it be books, podcasts, inspirational speeches...

I get to interact.

Emotional

Getting - (Accomplishment)

I need to feel positive and upbeat all the time and do things to eliminate negative feelings.

 Giving - (Appreciation)

I am thankful for emotions because they are here to tell me something.

Let emotions be like old fashioned antennas to connect with the frequency of my life at that time.

Spiritual

Getting - (Accomplishment)

I have to go to church a certain number of times or I have to tithe.

Giving - (Appreciation)

I am thankful for the community that I am spiritually connected with.

When spirit inhabits form it is life; when form inhibits spirit, it is death.
